Vista Sleep Issues
Steve S wrote:
Nothing new to add other than you are not alone. HP Tech Support tried everything under the sun including complete system restore (which knocked out hours and hours of tweaks and file transfers I'd done over the course of a week), testing every power setting, every "wake" setting, new drivers for all my hardware components, etc. In the end, sleep mode remains sporadic at best. All sleep mode does is put the monitor to sleep, green/blue light stays on the tower, I can hear the fans still spinning, and the only way to do anything is to do a hard shut down with the tower power button. Then it starts up no problem after informing me of the obvious...that windows didn't shut down properly. A little help here, Microsoft??? Hello??? I don't think it's Microsoft's problem. I think that HP needs to provide a BIOS fix. Please post here if any of you get a solution. "John Hanley" wrote: "EagleOne" wrote in message ... I have experienced the same problems with a brand new HP Pavilion d4890y. Random sleep mode failures occur even when no applications is running by checking in the task manager. HP tech support has no solution and bug report to Vista development group has no response. Thanks, Mike I also have the HP Pavilion d4890y and have similar Vista sleep problems. Example: A) After pressing the ‘half moon’ keyboard sleep button: a) The monitor screen blanked out, then came back on in five seconds; no power down. b) Tower power button stayed blue. B) Pressing the sleep button a 2nd time blanked the screen and powered down the hard drive, but not the fans; tower power button turned amber C) Neither space bar nor mouse awakens system at that point D) To recover had to turn off the computer at the tower power button and restart. E) After getting the normal HP boot screen, got the black Windows Error Screen "Windows did not shut down successfully" which counted down and segued to the log in screen. F) Same effect if invoking sleep from Start ‘Power’ button. This behavior is repeatable; the first invocation of Sleep causes the screen to go off and on, and things work normally. A 2nd sleep invocation freezes the system in a kind suspended animation. At times in my experimenting, I got the blue screen: "Stop: 0x00008086", but that has not been repeatable. Things I have tried to circumvent the problem: - unchecked "Allow this device to wake the computer" for my Network Adapter Power Management (no help) -verified that my Nvidia graphics card has its latest driver It also appears that if the system is put to sleep by the power option, it will also not reawaken from the keyboard or mouse; requires total power shutdown and restart. Have looked around for other solutions as you did, and found numerous references to sleep and power option problems, but no good solutions yet. For the time being, I am leaving the system running. Anyone else's thoughts will be appreciated. |

But if i want to do it a second time the computer locks up and i have to reboot holding the power button for several seconds. -- Kind Regards, Dirk Loiseaux "mhornet" wrote: I've been having some problems with Vista going to not fully going to sleep and the only way to get it back is to power down and restart. Vista Sleep Issues
Hi,
How latest your windows updates are on vista? Not sure this would help. I had the same problem but got them fixed after applying the windows update especially released on 07/10/2007. See the attached screen shot for the list of updates on 07/10/2007 which fixed the issue on my new dell D820 laptop. I was not applying those updates until I get the cisco vpn upgrade to work with these updates. That’s specific for my environment. Good luck. -- Chinnasamy Arumugam "Dirk Loiseaux" wrote in message news Hello, I have the same problem. Sleep mode works the first time you use it. Vista Sleep Issues
I bought a Dell w/VISTA business for work--no probs,so I bought a Dell
w/VISTA Home Premium for home--my computer goes to sleep fine, but will not wake up--I have to turn off the power on the tower and reboot sometimes 2-3 times to get it to a screen where it asks if I want to resume windows. I have tried Microsoft and Dell and both are no help--keep passing the buck between each other. I first had this problem on day 2 of using this new computer--isn't it ridiculous that Dell and Microsoft will not immediately fix your problem when the computer is brand new? The fact that this forum even exists is ridiculous--help should be available from Microsoft and the computer manufacturers-one shouldn't have to resort to sharing info with other computer users. Vista Sleep Issues
Hey Ryan, You may be on to something about the Logitech connection and
sleep/screensaver issues. I have had screen saver/power management issues with windows 3.1?? 95, XP and vista also. Plus, I have always had some sort of logitech device...trackball mouse. Now with vista not "waking up" the usb ports this is a Big issue for me. "Ryan Dinan" wrote: My Vista Ultimate x64 system seems to have an issue with staying asleep - but only if my Logitech MX1000 wireless laser mouse is on it's cradle. If it's on there, and I put the computer to sleep, it will awake almost instantly. So, I went to the control panel - Mouse - hardware, and clicked on properties (brings you to the device manager). I then went in and went to "Advanced configuration" and "Power Options", and unchecked the box that says "allow this device to wake the computer". Well, that setting obviously changes absolutely nothing - the mouse - even when moved on a surface, wakes the computer. I found a MS Knowledgebase article about computer sleep issues http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927821/en-us and it said that this "is caused by a USB device that supports wake from sleep functionality when it is connected to the UHCI host controller. This problem occurs even when the system BIOS reports that the UHCI host controller supports the wake from sleep functionality. To work around this problem, plug the USB device into an Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) host controller." Huh?? Is an EHCI USB controller basically a USB 2.0 port? If so, then this did not fix my problem either, as every port on my computer is USB 2.0 (and I am using USB 2.0 cables). It's also interesting to note that this same mouse issue also affects the ability of the computer to enter the screensaver (but only when the mouse is on the cradle). I have contacted Logitech about this, and they are baffled, but can reproduce the problem - so it's not just me ;-) Any ideas here? Thanks! -Ryan |

Vista Sleep Issues
I spent many hours trying to fix the sleep mode problem. Finally I found an
optional Windows Update that I downloaded, and it fixed the problem. The Update is: microsoft-other Hardware-HID Non-User Input Data Filter. Hope this works for you. Jack G "dev" wrote: /gmenrock/ said: How do you disable the power plan on Vista? I am having the same issues and have to shut off the computer and restart with errors all over again. Type "power options" into HELP & SUPPORT There are three plans to chose from, and each of those can be modified by clicking the "change plan settings", then the "change advanced settings" links. |

Vista Sleep Issues
Posts on the sleep problem run from March 07 through December 22, was there a fix somewhere or did everyone just give up? Or is there another thread regarding the problem? I have Vista Home Premium with SP1 installed on an HP M8247C-B. It worked well waking up from sleep until yesterday after installing SP1, now it doesn't. Just wondering....... -- confusticated Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
