Help me please! I just bought a Vista machine (new Presario laptop) about
three weeks ago. Vista's been fine, except for a few issues (mostly related to iTunes). But last night, my computer did one of those Windows Explorer errors. I restarted, and now I can't get it to boot up again! Windows wants to do the automatic disk check ... black screen w/ white text; "One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency....." It gets stuck - says "CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)... 9 percent complete (88301 of 98112 file records processed) And there it stops. I can't do anything but power down by holding down the power key for 5 seconds or so. (BTW, when it tells me that I can cancel the CHKDSK by pressing any key within the countdown, that doesn't work. It doesn't respond.) HELP! What can I do? |

OK nevermind. Crisis over for now. I did the F8 thing and was able to startup
in safe mode. "Ed" wrote: Help me please! I just bought a Vista machine (new Presario laptop) about three weeks ago. Vista's been fine, except for a few issues (mostly related to iTunes). I would contact your PC manufacturer and arrange to return the computer for
repair or replacement. A three-week old system should not have a sick hard drive already. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * NEW!
