Default will Vista and Office 07 make use of duel processor?

So, in my evaluation as to whether I should spring for a duel processor- I'm
wondering if Vista and Office 07 are designed to take advantage of a duel
processor? I notice that some of Dell's duel processors are slower than some
of their faster non duels.

People complain about how Vista seems slower than XP- well, if that's the
case, and if Vista will use the duel p. then I suppose I should spring for
it.

Yes, Windows Vista will run on the first core and Office 2007 will run on the second.

Cheers, Roman

FYI, XP offers support for dual cores... you won't gain anything from Vista
here

Dual core and dual processors are mainly good for if you are running
multiple applications at once, or a multi-threaded application. Sure, Vista
& Office 2007 support them, they just don't benefit much from them.

If you do much movie editing, audio editing, or much gaming with recent
games, you will notice a difference. Of course, to be a little future proof,
you can get a dual core. Most of what is out there is dual core anyway. Core
2 Duo, Athlon X2, etc.

Dual CPU's, you shouldn't need, especially if you are just running basic
apps. Dual Core, on the other hand, is becoming commonplace and almost in
default configurations.

Read this article:
http://robertmoir.com/blogs/someone_...3/CPU-FAQ.aspx
where I talk about the clock speed of processors.

XP will use dual core processors, as others have noticed, so this isn't
really a reason to upgrade to Vista in itself.

As for Office, it will run better on a dual core system because the OS
hosting it will run better. As to whether or not Office 2007 itself will do
much with dual cores, I'm not sure but I suspect the answer is no, and it
doesn't really matter anyway. Trust me - however fast you think you can
type, the programs in your office suite already spend far more time waiting
for you to hit the next key on the keyboard than they do processing.
