Those without a mouse wheel can right-click the desktop and choose View.

Can anyone tell me how i can change the icon size on the desktop display. I
am running Ultimate 64 bit. The size of the icons is way too big i think and
have tried everything to sort this out. There must be a away but i cant find
it. Id appreciate any feedback on this one

You didn't try holding in the ctrl key and rolling the mouse wheel.

click on desktop, hold ctrl key and scroll your mouse.
