I have a problem with Vista and Remote Desktop... Once I log on, it basically
paints a picture of the screen one block at a time.. Its very slow.. In the meantime, if i use the WinXP computer next to me.. It works as if I am sitting at the computer locally... Any help on what can get the network performace to work like XP.. I have all the settins in the Vista options set to low or disabled so that its not trying to get more than it needs.. |

I use RDP to several 2003 servers every day. I can't notice any difference
in speed between XP and Vista when connecting to any of the servers, some local and some via the Internet. Is the server on the local network or is it remote? If it's local please post the results of ipconfig /all for the XP box and the Vista box. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca "KaffeGoblen" wrote in message ... Hey Kerry Brown,
I have found out that it is not only my Remote desktop witch have a speed-problem. If I download a file from IE the download speed is 900 KB/s, but if I try Firefox the speed is 3 KB/s. Then if I try to connect to my homepage via SmartFTP. The download/upload speed is about 7 KB/s, but if I use Windows Explorer the speed about 7-900 KB/s. My Outlook 2007 is also slow, when hit Send/Receive the speed is 4-5 KB/s. Anyone who have an idea about what is happening? I don’t think it is at network-problem sins the speed is at maximum when I use IE and Explorer (My computer). I have deactivated my firewall Windows Firewall but no luck. Hi again,
I have read one of your other posts and you tell one of the other members to use this commando - "netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled" I gave it a shot and now - 700 Kb/s on my Outlook, 450 kb/s on my FTP, and so one... What does this commando do, and is it possible to find the function in some kind of GUI in Vista? Thanks alot! I am working on the same or a similar issue that I have narrowed down to network hardware although I haven't yet figured it out.
XP machines no problem, Vista machines have two issues, the primary appears to be that vista machines stutter on their downloads from the internet. Local is fine, but Im seeing download speeds of about 4Mb when xp machines see 7Mb at the same time. If you use http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest, vista machines will download for a second and then hesitate then download, hesitate, etc. downloading is very fast between hesitations. This then appears to link up with the remote desktop issue. I can remote fine within the same subnet/router/switch but the second it heads out over the internet, I get a lag on the connection that makes me long for my old 28.8 modem. Any network hardware guys able to shed light on possibilities? Im using a cisco on the affected network, but I have a linksys at home that doesn't have this issue. Again, the issue is only with vista boxes, never with xp or 2k3 boxes. Is this similar to your issue KaffeGoble? EggHeadCafe.com - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com |

This is in my experience so far, definitely a Cisco issue. Has there been any additional thinking on the fix for this since the original posts above ? -- abwc |

I don't see the original post above you reference, but usually disable
autotuning and rss will solve this issue: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled And reboot... --- Jeffrey Randow Windows Networking MVP 2001-2006 http://www.networkblog.net On Wed, 7 Nov 2007 19:23:44 -0600, abwc wrote: This is in my experience so far, definitely a Cisco issue.
