Default slow startup

I have a new Vista machine, and it's taking 53 sec. to startup. I found that
the Maxtor One Touch II backup USB drive was contributing to 13sec. The
computer starts up in 40 sec when the Maxtor drive is not connected. I have
a home network, and I'm assuming that's why I have a 40 sec vs. 30 sec
startup. Any thoughts to improve this? The c drive is defraged, and protected
for viruses and spyware. The Maxtor is standalone, with no software. Use as
backup drive for Vista backup and restore.

Default slow startup

This probably isn't the answer you're looking for. But my solution to this
has always been to never shut down the computer. Or put it in sleep mode. It
should wake from sleep quicker than it starts from a cold boot.

I don't know, maybe a bad suggestion. But it works.
