Ever since installing Vista HP, I can't sign into WLM - I get error
81000306. Everything is exactly the same as I had when I had XP MCE on this PC - same login for WLM, same WLM version, same router, same ISP, everything. And I never had any problem while using WLM on XP. I have Windows Firewall turned off, and no other FW software (the same as I had in XP) I have a Netgear DG834G router, which hasn't changed at all since I installed Vista. |

I have Windows Firewall turned off, and no other FW software (the same as I had in XP) I have a Netgear DG834G router, which hasn't changed at all since I installed Vista. Fixed it - apparently the router's latest firmware (3.01.31 UK, 3.01.32 non-UK) gives this error in WLM under Vista. Restoring the router to 3.01.25 solves the Vista/Windows Live Messenger problem. Note that Windows Live Messenger works fine with the latest firmware under XP, it's just Vista that needs the older firmware on the router. This may apply to other Netgear routers too - all I know for sure is it definitely applies to a DG834G v2. Also note that the Netgear firmware Recovery Utility doesn't work under Vista - I had to hook up the router to an XP machine to run it. |
