I use windows live onecare and it alerted me that some of the updates I
needed didnt download. I went to windows update and viewed the update
history and found that the windows defender didn't update. It gave me this
error code: 800706BA. Does anyone know how to fix this?

This is an RPC error. It means the server closed the connection. there could
be many reasons for this, but one may be network troubles. Try it again and
see if it works that time (yeas, I know that sounds trite, bit it's a first
step).

Many programs can generate this error code. It simply means time out error.
Most of the time is network and remote procedure call related. But MS Access
2000 running on a desk top can have this error during print report. It just
time out due to I did not turn off 'Auto name correction' option.

That means that messenger cannot connect to the Windows messenger
service. It may go away tomorrow, or it may be some setting in the
computer.

Try this first:
Go to start- run and type

Services.msc

Then find:

"Dcom Server Process Launcher"

Right mouse click, goto Properties.

Set to "Automatic", apply, and then click "Start".

Click ok.
if it saycould not start the DCOM server process launcher on local
computer.
Error 1053: the server did not respond to the start or control request
in a timely fashion

then try this
Start Run type in sfc /scannow

sfc then space then /scannow

then try again.
