Hi forum,
I saw a lot of troubles on this forum but couldnīt solved up till now. Vista to old PC is working fine. In the old PC the Vista is visible but when trying to access it is denied as not allowed access. I was reading that the C & D drives are by default not accesible? Is it related to the NFTS-file structure or the UAC??? Could some body give me an answer on it (i am using Vista Home Premium) Ragards Huib |

It could be the permission in the Security. The below link describe different security level in the Vista.

I had the same problem and may have have spent 40 hours reading, posting and
experimenting. I finally got it . Microsoft has made a mess out of this. I think I got lucky--like finding a needle in a haystack. . First of all, turn firewalls off for now. After you get this going you can turn on firewalls and see if they affect anything. You need to turn off firewalls on each computer. Then, make sure all computers have the same name. I made mine "WORKGROUP" And, file sharing from Vista can only be done through the administrator. At first I didn't have a password for administrator because I didnt want to mess with it, but I added one (through control panel) and it got me to the next step. You also want to turn guest account on. At this point I could see Vista guest files and folders and public files and folders. But I couldn't see my(administrators) folder. My administrators folder is "ED". I could see it but not gain access. This is where it got complicated. Again--absolutely ridiculous what has to be done--a MAJOR flaw of Vista. Miscrosoft claims it is for security reasons, but they dont know how to do this either. The steps they list DO NOT WORK. Go to control panel Go to User accounts and family safety Go to Network and Internet Go to View Network computers You will see all computers on your network Click on your Vista computer Right click on the C drive folder and click share Click security add "Guest" as group or user name give guest all permission even though it might tell you there are errors etc. go back and repeat with the Admin folder (whatever you called it), the User folder and the Documents folder. You may have to download the following on your XP. I did but do not know if it was necessary... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en Let me know Good luck Ed "Huib" wrote: Hi Robert, I feel it is the way i have to go but even after reading the related sites i really don't know how to go further. Hallo Ed & Robert
I am using Home Premium which might be a little different. Nevertheless i succeeded to add the guestuser and give him full access. Also the admin folder is added (user & document folder i didn't find). The icals command didn't work but when using NET View \\vistanaam i see the PC name on the other PC. Only when accing it i receive no acces permitted. Further help is welcome, very frustating!!! Regards Huib "Ed43" schreef in bericht ... Vista home Premuim
Here is what I have on my network Linsoire Linux, Mandrake Linux, Win2k Serv Pk4, WinXP Home, WinXP Pro, Win 3.11 None of the above could see the vista or vista see them until I enabled the netbios over tcp/ip Am I correct in assuming that this cercumvents the ipv6 option in vista and is there a fix for this? Hallo,
I tried mostly everthing what is on the forum mentioned but still without any succes. I can't give you any comments on it. An expert told me that it can be for reason that the old machine is a Fat32 and that for any reason it is not comptible with NFTS. On the other hand i can move files from the Vista all files from the old machine (copy/past) although the old PC isn't able to access the Vista (but it does see it)?
