hey folks. We are running Vista Business. We have one user, when we
setup vpn connection, even though we tell the wizard to "use my internet connection" (LAN via CAT 5 and Wireless) it for some reason keeps trying to setup to go out thru a dialup connection, even though one doesn't exist. Anyone experience this, and/or have a solution? |

Hi,
I hate these kind of 'me too' posts, but, yes, indeed, I have the exact same problem. I first thought it was because I have two network connections (wired and wireless) and one of both is not running (cable unplugged for example). That didn't help. I then thought of disabling one. To no avail. I'm still looking into this, as I really was able to define a VPN connection that went over my Internet Connection a week ago. But now, I can't get that working anymore. So I'm thinking now that this can be caused by a recent update, or some software I recently installed. I'll get back here when I find out what's causing this. Cheers, v EggHeadCafe.com - .NET Developer Portal of Choicehttp://www.eggheadcafe.com Sorry for the confusion, but this message was sent as a reply through eggheadcafe, but the message comes in the group as a new message. I'll describe the problem: I try to add a new VPN connection in Vista (Ultimate). I do define that it is NOT a dial up connection, but a VPN connection going over my network connection. I can define the remote host, the username and password, etc. But Vista forces the connection to become a dial up connection. When going to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections I see that in the icon it is clearly marked as dial-up, it is placed in the dial-up group, and when I view the properties of the connection, on the General tab, it says, under Connect using: Modem removed. In the Phone number text box, I can find the host address I entered during setup. In the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections panel, it says Unavailable - device missing. And I did manage to get it working after my initial Vista install. Yet after some days, after a reboot, Vista had switched the connection to being a dial-up connection. Cheers, v |

Hi all, I just had the same issue happen to one of my Dell Laptops running Vista Ultimate. It was fine until two weeks ago then suddenly it's gone from a regular VPN connection to a dial-up connection that says "device missing" and has the modem icon. no matter what I try i can't get it to go back to a VPN connection. Has anyone found a way to resolve this issue yet? -- nst501 Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Never had a modem installed on Vista machine - had VPN working fine. Was remotely telling a friend how to install their Speedtouch 330 modem under Vista, and ended up installing one on mine just so I could go through each step. Even after unplugging and uninstalling the modem, I found that whenever my browser took a few seconds to load a page, my existing VPN connection would pop up, prompting me to dial it - I kept clicking cancel, but this became annoying, so I ended up deleting the VPN connection, thinking I would simply recreate it. Unfortunately, whenever I try to recreate the VPN connection, it fails because under the connection properties it has 'Connect using: Modem Removed- Unavailable device ()" On my list of available networks, the status says "This connection is not available because there is a problem with your modem or network adapter" I can't figure a way to a) remove all traces of having installed a modem, and more importantly b) force my VPN connection to use the existing LAN network adapter! Look forwad to any responses to this! Thanks -- RSIboy Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

I have just experiened the same problem. I am using VISTA Ultimate and had VPN connections working fine. I went onsite and decided to use my bluetooth phone to create a modem connection. That worked fine and VPN was fine. But when i disconnected i found that my VPN connection was changed to a dial-up connection??? I deleted and re-created my VPN but each time i create, it always tried to dial a modem first. I have deleted the modem (bluetooth) and even disabled drivers to no-avail. It simply will not recognise that i have an ethernet connection. I hope someone finds a fix for this. I will contact Micrsoft next week and use some of my support time. In meantime love to hear if someone finds a fix. DrewMann -- drewmann Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
