Vista Ultimate can act as a Remote Desktop host. The software is built-in to
the OS and is free. If your home PC is behind a router you need to use a static IP for that PC on your LAN and forward TCP Port 3389 through the router to that PCs LAN IP address. Call from a remote site, ie. a friends house for example, using the public IP of your router. For Vista to Vista connections with Remote Desktop see this page for my suggestions... http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.or...endations.html Note you can not use NLA with XP... Basic help, hints, etc. This page was written for XP but the practices are the same. http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.or...eshooting.html More help for Vista... http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/win...Remote+Desktop -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights... The Vista Ultimate support information mentions remote access to corporate infrastructure, but I'm not sure it that's equivalent to remote access to my home PC. Can anyone clarify if Vista Ultimate will do what I'm interested in... and if not, what would you suggest (preferably less expensive than using GoToMyPC)? |
