I have an XP Media center service pack 2 desk top.
The printer on it is an HP 2210 all in one, attached via USB port. I now have a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I am running, both direct wired and wirelesss network through a router provided by my DSL provider. The network is working fine in both modes. I have (with the help of a pretty good expert in the tech support group) been able to set up files on both machines for sharing and also the above printer. I have gone through all of the check lists for connectivity, firewalls, etc on the Vista and XP sites. The Vista machine can see the printer, and even open the status box, yet any attempt to "connect" or actually print a document ends up with the "Windows cannot connect to this printer. Access is denied" Many hours now spent on this rascal so will appreciate any help Mike |

Simon,
Here comes the answer. My support guy finally figured out that you go onto the Vista machine, into the "printer area" click add printer. Now comes the good part. When you add the printer as a local printer, select create new port, then under port name put in the exact network address of the USB printer on the XP machine (\\networkcompname\printersharename) and off it goes like it has good sense. Now if I could only find how to get all the XP fonts that for some reason they figured no one in Vista would use and install them (without having to determine all of the ones that are or are not there) Hope that helps Mike "simon" wrote: Mike, Have the exact same problem, tried the permissions, installing both vista and xp drivers, tried checking permissions on xp desktop. If you find the solution please forward to me, vice versa. Simon "Added not to request" wrote: I have an XP Media center service pack 2 desk top.
