Hi,

I am trying to Backup my drives and files under vista, to a 750Gb removable
hard drive. It originally worked when I first installed the software, but now
it shows the error described above.

Any ideas?

Please contact me via email (remove "online") and include the following:

1. The problem description you put below.
2. A screenshot of your Disk Management screen showing disks and volumes.
3. Zip up the contents of %windir%\logs\windowsbackup\
4. Generate a log file using the instructions below and email it to me:

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Asr,
create a new key called LogFileSetting

Under LogFileSetting, create a new DWORD value called EnableLogging.
Right-click that value, click Modify, and then enter 00000001 (hexadecimal)
or 1 (decimal)

Under LogFileSetting, create a new String value called LogPathName.
Right-click that value, click Modify, and then enter C:\asr.log.

Next, reproduce the error. You should have a file called asr.log under c:\.

I am having the same exact problem with File Backup. It also seems to
affect System Restore in the same way. Not only am I unable to perform a
backup, but I can't even go back to an earlier restore point. Is there a
solution to this?

I have just run into the same issue (the backup failed transfer syntax
not supported by RPC server 0x800706C2). I tried disabling all the
non-Microsoft services (same error) and booting into safe mode (backup
center wouldn't even start). Is there any solution available for this
problem? Thanks! Bill
