Hi,
I have a Freecom Storage Gateway with some folders which are protected by a username and a password. Connecting to these folders seems only working when connecting from my older computers, running Windows XP. My new laptop, which is running Vista, keeps showing me the logon dialog. Connecting to non password protected folders on the Freecom or on other computer works without any problem. Does anyone have an idea about the cause of this problem? Why is it impossible to connect to any of the shared folders when they are protected by en username and a password? With regards, Stijn Lemmens |

With regards, Stijn Lemmens The problem could be caused by the way that Vista handles network authentication (which is called NTLMv2). To make Vista use the same method as XP (NTLM): 1. Click the Start button, type "regedit" in the Start Search box, and press Enter. 2. Click "Continue" in the User Account Control prompt. 3. Open this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa 4. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named LmCompatibilityLevel. 5. Set LMCompatibilityLevel to 1. 6. Restart the Vista computer. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
