Default XP can't access Vista

I have an XP laptop and a Vista desktop. The desktop can access all shared
folders on the laptop. However, the laptop can only access files on the
desktop if the files are in the public folders. When I share a folder other
than in the public folders, I can't access them. I get the "access denied",
"not accessible", "contact administrator" blah blah blah. I've created a new
user account on Vista and applied the password option, but my laptop never
asks for the password. Please help. I'm going crazy. And getting tired.

Make sure no firewall block access or re-check the permission in the security tab. This link may help too,
