well I cannot access pop3 port anywhere. I suspected norton antivirus had to do something with it. So I understalled the software, but it did not soft the problem. no sort of firewall services are running. any other ideas? no hardware firewall either. smtp is good. |

What type of Internet connection?
Which mail program are you using, and what is the exact error message when attempting a mail download? its not the internet connection. vista is installed on my notebook, so my
network varies with location. other machines on the same network does not display the same symptom. I am using the windows mail that came with vista. I have office 2007 but did not install outlook. the error message output by windows mail is irrelevant, because I cannot open the pop port via telnet anyway. fyi. I cannot connect to 'any' pop addresses. so I am pretty sure something installed on my system is preventing to gaining access to port 110. "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: What type of Internet connection? You obviously know what you're doing if you tested by
using a telnet connection on port 110. Sorry, I have not heard of any other users with the same symptom as your issue. I have no idea what could be blocking port 110 on your notebook.
