Problem shrinking C: partition.
I am trying to shrink my C: partition (from 55GB to 30GB) in order to create
a new partition. The message says there is 0 available space. I have disabled system restore, and moved the pagefile to a different partition, but no effect. I have considered purchasing Acronis Disk Director as someone else on the board recommended, but would like to just use the Vista's console if at all possible. Thanks in advance for your help! E- |

Problem shrinking C: partition.
Elai:
There may be "unmovable" files at the end of the partition or maybe it has not properly been defragged. Try defragging first. Problem shrinking C: partition.
The built-in shrink utility will be able to decrease the partition size till
it bumps against the first unmovable/locked system file. If you want to decrease the partition further you will need a 3rd party Disk Management tool. I use Acronis Disk Director suite. The latest posted version is 100% Vista compatible. After installing the program, create the emergency CD. Reboot the computer and boot up with this CD. Do your partition work from there. You will not be hampered with locked files. -- Regards, Richard Urban MVP Microsoft Windows Shell/User "Elai" wrote in message ...
