Default Networking Issues between Windows ME and Vista

I have setup a home network and I am having a problem. I can see each machine
on the other but can't access the files. I can Ping both and get a response
back. I have Mcafee Internet Security Suite on the Vista machine and Norton
on the ME Machine. I can access the internet from both machines. I get the
following message from the vista machine: "pcname" is not set up to establish
a connection on port "File and printer sharing (SMB)" with this computer. Any
help would be appreciated

Thank you in advance

I think you have just described and identified a big part of your problem.

"I have Mcafee Internet Security Suite on the Vista machine and Norton
on the ME Machine."

Max,

are you saying that McAfee is stopping the return traffic and not SMB?

Yes....more than one person has reported success with removing McAfee and/or
Norton. If Norton is just the AV app, turn off Internet Worm Protection.
Alternative AV apps that have a higher success rate(AVast, AVG, and
Kaspersky).

I had the same problem but between two Vista machines. I found an answer ...
I hope it works for you.

I needed to enable file sharing in the network properties: In Vista it's:
Network and Sharing Center/Status/Properties (check File and Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks).

The following is the article I found via Google that is directed at XP:

Good luck
