Default Printer not extablishing connection

Here is the issue.

I just purchased a brand new HP dv6338se laptop. I also purchased a brand
new Lexmark X8350 all-in-1.

I connected the all-in-1 first to my already established desktop running XP
pro. I connected the printer via USB cable. The printer prints a test page
perfectly from the XP desktop. My laptop is connected to my home network via
wireless. I have been attempting to connect to the shared printer on the XP
desktop. This has failed to work. I ahve tried the following solutions:

I have tried every solution found on the internet and still get a
communication error with the printer. I do not know what else to do other
then to return the printer and get a new one. Does anyone have any other
solutions to this issue?

I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Clay

Can you see the files and folders on the XP desktop from the Vista notebook?
Are they both in the same Workgroup?
