Comp A: Laptop with Home Premium, wireless connection speed as i would
expect for 802.11g. Internet speed ties in with what I am used to from my
cable connection.

Comp B: Desktop with Ultimate, wireless connection speed as above, but
internet speed appears to be totally intermittent and when there crawls ie
may get a page displayed but more often will time out.

I have checked the properties for both systems wireless connections, both
have exactly the same protocols installed. I have placed the laptop beside
the Comp B antenna and it still works perfectly. Comp B had all the various
RCs and Betas installed but worked perfectly, its only since I installed the
retail version that this has occured and subsequent to ensuring that
Ultimate was up to date once installed.

I am also using a traffic monitor and it seems that the outgoing requests
are very intermittent.

Would appreciate any pointers in rectifying this.

Cheers

Different wireless adapters? Have you got the latest drivers for the
wireless adapter on the Desktop? Check on the wireless adapter mftr.'s
website for Vista drivers.

What anti-malware software are you running?

Good point, PTravel! To the OP - Running McAfee or Norton? If yes,
uninstall and see what happens. If that solves the issue, use a better
and less invasive program such as NOD32, Kaspersky, or Avast.

Malke,

Yes they are different, however I even purchased a new adapter for the
desktop last week having specifically ascertained there was a manufacturers
Vista Driver for it. File transfer between the 2 systems averages out at
about 330 kBytes/sec so the adapters are fine.........Its just somewhere in
the internet protocols of the desktop I seem to have the problem and as I
said in my original post, both systems have exactly the same!

Additionally, both systems are only using the Windows Firewall and the each
have the same release of AVG free installed.

Cheers

I have not used McAfee or Norton in this century

Both are almost identical installations relying on standard products
included in Vista. (except for AVG free in both systems) I use Firefox as
well so its not the IE 7 anti-phishing problem.

Then I'm sorry but I don't know. Nothing pops out from what you've
posted as being the possible reason. I guess you'll just need to figure
out what's different between the two machines by comparing them
side-by-side. Not something that can be done by people who can't see
your machines.

Just thought I would revisit this as the situation is still the same.
Further observation of internet behaviour seems to indicate that it appears
relatively fast just after booting up, then degrades.

Additionally, the system with the problem went through the Beta and RC
Programme and in all releases the Internet Connectivity was exactly as good
as XP. Its only occured with the final version. What Changed?
