so between all of us, can't we find the answer...or at least beat up someone
at MS until we get an answer? J. "Brett I. Holcomb" wrote: And me three. XP fine, Vista - no good. jcoane wrote: "Double9s" wrote: Anybody find a solution? I'm stumped, gonna have to call MS soon. I have the exact same problem...just started happening. I have a double boot system and when I go to XP, the cd reads and autoplays fine. The problem is somewhere in Vista. I don't have a solution but I hope to find it here. |

I had a long chat with Dell -- bottom line -- they suggest a Vista reinstall. Problem is with Vista and reinstall is only solution. Also a problem with dual boots so they suggest clean install only w/o dual boot. Fir me a royal pain because i have to back up and reinstall all my software. Oh, well, unless anyone has some other idea, this is where I am at. Jim "jcoane" wrote: so between all of us, can't we find the answer...or at least beat up someone at MS until we get an answer? J. There were some posts in Vista install setup newsgroups and some KB
articles about removing upper and lower filters. I only had an upper filter and when I followed the KB article I now have a system that needs repair G. My problem is twofold - Vista would not install from the CD/DVR drive - it booted, started and then whined about needing drivers. I installed using an older DVD drive. Then I replaced the old drive with the new one and Vista said it found drivers. It shows the CD but not the files on it. At this point who knows? I'm going to repair later (I'm on XP now) and see what else I can find but it is a common problem. Nice shiny new OS can't handle an age-old (or almost age-old) standard like ATAPI. It should fall back to the lowest denominator. jcoane wrote: I had a long chat with Dell -- bottom line -- they suggest a Vista reinstall. Problem is with Vista and reinstall is only solution. I've been following this post because I've had the same problem. After about
5 hours on the phone with a Dell tech who was controlling my computer via Dell Connect, the problem was solved. I don't know exactly what the problem was, but my support case number was 167405141. I hope this helps you... "Double9s" wrote: This is a Vista problem. When I open my CD drive or my DVD drive and insert a new disc, like a game, Windows doesn't recognize that I've done so. The autorun doesn't run. In my computer, it still shows the title of the last disc that was in there. And when I doubleclick the drive I get an error. The only way to run anything is to "explore" the disc and open the program. It's only been this way for a couple weeks, wasn't always like that. |

Built new sli computer last month. After playing games for about a week my
dvd/rw/cdrw no longer recognized games.Replaced it with a new HP lightscribe model.and it worked again. Now it is messed up.I noticed that when the starforce did the disc check that theplayer sounded like it was trying to go off the edge of the dvd.I just installed the 3rd player and this time i will not play any games that use starforce verification..This might not have anything to do with your problems but i thought i would post it since it seems to have solved mine.TNX "Tony D" wrote: I've been following this post because I've had the same problem.
