I'm thinking you may have some third-party software which is not Vista
ready. Have you installed any programs dealing with creating your own
CD's or DVD's? Maybe iTunes?

ITUNES, ITUNES, ITUNES!!! I racked my brain for hours doing everything that
microsoft said to do, and every blog known to man. ITUNES crashes with the
DVD-R drive. Uninstall it and then the drive shows up. the device is not
messed up! wish i had found that out before buying a new drive.

The newest version of itunes is supposed to work. crossing fingers

Forget the previous post.. reinstallation still made it crash. I think it is
time to buy a mac. I have installed all service packs up to now and still ..
nothing helps.. to top it off.. when I called microsoft for help they wanted
to charge me $59 to get help with the operating system because it came
pre-installed. How much out in the cold can one feel.. brrrr
