I am having a huge problem with my pc connecting to the XBOX. I connect wired
via the PC. I have tried direct connection but this also fails, i can however access (sometimes!) Media Center via the XBOX. The pc see's the XBOX but describes it as an 'unknown network' and refuses to let me edit/make it a private network and limits the connectivity or just gives it local access only. About two weeks ago suddenly the whole connection went and i was informed that this was due to the MTU, after a while the message then changed to IP connection failed. I am wondering if an update to the Windows Vista HP is causing the problems. I actually freshly reinstalled Vista HP and the problem is still there. I have no oither applications on the pc aside from what is on vista, including no anti-virus or alternative firewall. I have reset the ipconfig and gone through all the steps given on the XBOX support forum and it has not helped at all. In XP i had the two connections on a bridge (i think, i am not very technical minded but i did see a connection called 1394(?) and the PC alongside the XBOX connection), now i seem to have an internet gateway device (Microsoft Network Infrastructure) with no explanation to what it is exactly (!?) I can't seem to edit the properties and half the information appears to be missing. The ip that is has is just :1. I haven't a clue to be hionest but that just doesn't seem right. Anyway, the information on the xbox error message points to something to do with the DHCP - where can i find this to edit the properties? Would this have anything to do with my ISP? I really don't understand this - it was so much easier in XP! Clare |
