Hi,
I am unable to get a working connection from my Vista home computer to my Vista computer at work (my small business). I have set up the client computer to accept VPN calls, and I have set up a VPN connection at home. Every time I connect, Vista says that the VPN connection has been successfully made, and a lot of bytes seems to be sent to the host, but the recieved bytes always stop at 323 bytes. And the connection is unusable, I cannot browse by using \\computername\sharename or by ip. I have tried by turning off the firewall on the host, but it doesn't help. I also checked the logs, and it seems that on the host computer, the connection is at first accepted, but then immediately (and silently) disconnected. The client however always thinks it is connected. On XP, setting up VPN was fairly easy, but on Vista it seems totally impossible. I have also tried different settings (connecting unencrypted etc) but nothing helps. What gives? PS. At home, I'm running Vista Ultimate and at work Vista Business |

Posting the results of ipconfig /all (after establishing the VPN) here may help.

If the VPN client PPTP IP is 192.168.2.156, the server IP could be 192.168.2.155 (or you can find the server IP from the details of the TCP/IP). Can you ping the server PPTP IP, for example, 192.168.2.155?

Hi, sorry, but that is not the case. I can ping, but I can't do anything else. If I write the address like \\192.168.2.150\Public in an address window, Vista thinks for a minute or two, and then says that it is unavailable? Also, my internet connectivity is cut off.
So, have you got any ideas what to try next? Regards Joni70 "Robert L [MVP - Networking]" wrote in message ... OK, this is what my ipconfig results look like after establishing VPN (in this case, I used the default gateway on the remote network option for tcp/ip, so I also lost my internet connectivity): Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : MyHomeComputer Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : pp.htv.fi PPP adapter Freddis New: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WorkVPNConnection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.156(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 213.243.153.136 213.243.153.170 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : pp.htv.fi Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0F-EA-62-78-41 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::4009:4952:27f7:82ee%8(Preferred) IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 89.27.19.53(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.248.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 12.4.2007 1:55:24 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 12.4.2007 6:55:24 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 89.27.16.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 213.243.153.175 DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 201330666 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 213.243.153.170 213.243.153.171 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled ------------- "Robert L [MVP - Networking]" wrote in message ... Hi, I am unable to get a working connection from my Vista home computer to my Vista computer at work (my small business). I have set up the client computer to accept VPN calls, and I have set up a VPN connection at home. Every time I connect, Vista says that the VPN connection has been successfully made, and a lot of bytes seems to be sent to the host, but the recieved bytes always stop at 323 bytes. And the connection is unusable, I cannot browse by using \\computername\sharename or by ip. I have tried by turning off the firewall on the host, but it doesn't help. I also checked the logs, and it seems that on the host computer, the connection is at first accepted, but then immediately (and silently) disconnected. The client however always thinks it is connected. On XP, setting up VPN was fairly easy, but on Vista it seems totally impossible. I have also tried different settings (connecting unencrypted etc) but nothing helps. What gives? PS. At home, I'm running Vista Ultimate and at work Vista Business |
