Default Can't install network printers

I have a new laptop running Vista Home Premium and it is connected to my
home network which has two desktops running XP Pro. I have two printers
connected to one of the desktops, an HP LaserJet 2200d and a Photosmart 7960
and both are shared. When I try to install the network printers on the Vista
system it finds the network printers, I select the printer I want to connect
and receive the dialog "To use the shared printer \\computername\HPlaser,
you need to install the printer driver on your computer. If you do not
recognize or trust the name and location of the printer, do not install the
driver." When I select "Install driver" I receive a dialog saying "Windows
cannot connect to the printer. The specified print monitor is unknown". I
have downloaded the Vista drivers for both printers but can't figure out a
way to access them when installing the printer. If I install the HP Laser as
a local printer on the Vista system it installs ok but then I can't figure
out how to change the port to access the network printer. Hope you can help
I've run out of ideas.

TIA,

Gregg

Hi
1/Can your ping Do XP machines using their IP address?
2/ Can your pinG the same machine using its hostname instead of its IP
address?
Cheers
