Visibility is turned on for vista business machine. Other machines are XP
and windows 2000 .I can ping an IP address but cannot ping the same machine when using its hostname. I can ping external websites by using thein hostname or their IP address I cannot ping the local machine with its hostname either. The error message is Ping request could not find host hostame.Please check the name and try again. My local Vista Business machine is visible in "Network'" view along with ADSL rate. Internet connectivity is fine. Sharing dries on fruiters by IP address is not Ok an a network Managed by DHCP. Incur had these issues wits XP on 2000 machines using the same infrastructure Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance. |

If you can ping IP but not name, make sure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. This troubleshooting may help,

netbios is enabled and microsoft LLTD installed on XP machines. I can see the
machines with correct hostnames and IP addresses in the network view! But cannot fringe to hostname.
