Is there a way to print to a windows 98 network printer from Vista? Vista
sees the printer but can't complete the operation. Yes, all settings are correct. Printing works when sending from an XP PC to the network printer. |

You can try and install the drivers locally and then select the printer's
share. "dayapp" wrote: Is there a way to print to a windows 98 network printer from Vista? Vista sees the printer but can't complete the operation. Yes, all settings are correct. Printing works when sending from an XP PC to the network printer. |

That's bull. Gateway knows nothing. You should be able to network any two
PCs. Hey if you can connect a Mac to a PC, then why not? At minimum a Win XP PC should be able to see a Win 98 PC. Can't see why it can't go the other way. Thanks for the reply. Does locally installed driver mean on the Vista PC?

Yup. One way is to choose the parallel port [don't auto detect]. Then inside
the printer settings in the Vista, change/add the network port [i.e. \\192.168.0.1\deskjet or \\win98pc\deskjet ] Win 98 doesn't care where it comes from. Problem with older OS is not that they don't work but they don't carry drivers for newer OSs. As an example, in XP or Vista], if the printer is shared, you can install most OS drivers prior to XP. But Win 98 doesn't know about XP, Vista or 2000. "dayapp" wrote: Thanks for the reply. Does locally installed driver mean on the Vista PC?
