When I connect to the unsecured wireless public network at my college I can
get an IP address for the network but I cannot visit only one site on the
web, Google. For any other site my browser gives an error message, “unable
to locate site� or “waiting for reply�. How do I solve this problem?

Any chance they have a proxy you need to use? I would check with the admins
for that network at the college for help...

I did and we found that it is a problem with the wireless router the school
uses. They have 2 different brands, one works fine with vista while the other
doesn't. They are both connected to the same server. Are there firewalls or
something I need to turn off for the other routers to work?

Some routers can have issues with Vista. The best you can do is to run this
test and see what the results are.

Note the warning - "Running this tool from behind a corporate firewall or on
operating systems other than those specified above won't produce accurate
results."...

I suppose its possible firmware upgrades to the questionable router may
help. That is an issue for the college network admins however..

Every 1000 ft the school has placed a wireless router. In the liberary I can
successfully connect and do what ever I want. When I go outside of the range
of that router my computer picks up the next closest wireless connection,
called renegade. Renegade uses a different brand of wireless router than
liberary. When I connect to renegade I can only reach one site
"www.google.com" and no other. When I try, I get a "waiting for site" or
"connection timed out" error message. I get the same error message even I
try a link inside the google site.

I used the website to run test and found the TCP High Performance Protocol
FAILED on the networks I cannot connect to. What can I do now?

This means that your router does not support window scaling (documented in
RFC 1323). Check your router mfgr's web site to see if there is updated
firmware to fix this, if not I would recommend you buy a new router - there
is a link on the test results page that shows routers which have received a
Windows Vista Logo. That would be a good place to start.
