I had the same problem...When I access some network PCs / servers at some point (after 15 mins) the connection is lost and I get this error message. I can ping the server but not access the pc...It seems tha something timeouts! The pc after that was not able to shutdown properly (remained at logging off...) No solution whatsoever in fora or Microsoft. Try this *workaround* that WORKS for me (unbelievable...) I used the sync center of Vista - for offline viewing of network folders. I created an empty folder the pc / server that I am interested in viewing and made it to synchronize for offline viewing every 5 mins. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I still cannot believe that this works... Ok, dear friends with problems with Vista OS. I will show u how 2 fix this problem. First make sure that your network is set up properly and that your devices are communicating. 1) click startrun type in (*cmd*) this will take u to command prompt, now type in (*ipconfig /all*) * note make sure to leave a space between ipconfig and /all. This will give the list of all the devices in your network and their corresponding IP addresses for each one and more detailed info but for right now IP address is all you need. Now, what u wanna do is make sure ur devices are talking so u are gonna use the ping command to accomplish this task. Type ping and the IP address of one of ur devices in ur network. * note leave the space between ping and IP Addres for example (*ping 192.168.2.36*) u should get 4 replys from your device if not well the device are not talking to each other. 2) Set up a file share in your netwok. click startnertworknetwork and sharing center tab, once in the network and sharing window click set up a network or connection *note if u have a router in ur network make sure to select (*set up a router or access point*) once selectd at the bottom of this tab click where it says set up file and printer share then select (*allow sharing with anyone on the same network as this computer*) * note you can't share files if your computers are not on the same workgroup. 3) to set up ur workgroup click start then right click computer and scroll down then click properties, once in properties window bellow ur system info u click the change settings for computer name, domain, and workgroups then just change the workgroup to whatever u want (*by default the Workgroup is workgroup*) *note your computer name can be different from your workgroup name. Now if you perform these steps and you still get this error go to startnetwork and make sure u can see all your devices if u have a router right click on it then click disable and this will allow to share files. -- 127.0.0.1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 127.0.0.1's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/113073.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...ork/729541.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

I had this error and have tried many things which I found on several forums. In the end what fixed it was the following (for Vista): 1. Press the Start button 2. Press Networks 3. In the left-hand menu, press "Manage network connections" 4. Right-click "Local Area Connection" and select Properties 5. Check "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" - this was unchecked for some reason -- Evgeni ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Evgeni's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/125518.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...ork/729541.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
