Default Home Network Windows Vista laptop + XP Desktop connection problems

I have a vista laptop connecting through wifi to a Belkin ADSL modem wireless
g router and a desktop connecting through an Ethernet cable to the above
router. I have changed the workgroup on the desktop to match the vista
workgroup, the laptop shows on the desktop but I am unable to connect to it
or it's shared folders, but the desktop doesn't show on the laptop at all.

If I open the network map in vista, I can now see the desktop pc after
downloading
the LLTD Responder component (see article below):
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true

but I am unable to double click on the desktop pc to connect.

It must be due to the security features in vista, but it just wont work.
It's driving me mad!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Folder sharing is set up on both pcs for
the folders I need to share.

Awaiting with anticipation anyone that may have resolved this problem there
selves!

Thank you robert for your reply, I have now fixed the problem. I posted my
resolved walk through of problems to solution above, (Home network with xp
and vista is possible) it turned out to be the over zealous intrusion
provention in Norton's Internet Security 2007.

-------- A suggestion for Microsoft Community Board Administration --------
It would be really handy if on this board you had a resolved button. It
would make searching for a solution much easier. People would then be able
to review resolved problems simular to their own for answers, instead of
having to read through LOTS of requests for help.
