Default Vista does not recognize Anti-Virus software

Hi Nana,

No genius at all, but you do know how to make one smile :)
Glad you got it all sorted out and once again you can enjoy your system as
one should,

Hi SG,
I clicked on the link you gave me and successfully uninstalled all the
Symantec stuff that was on my PC. I would never have found this link on
my
own. Now my computer works 150% better/faster. My Word/Excel comes up
instantly and I'm not getting all those blankety, bank messages or waiting
for long periods of time. You're a genius! Thanks to all the others as
well
for their insightful comments. I did have AVG on my computer so will use
it
for now. Can't thank you all enough and you've made one gramma very happy
!
Cheers,

John, I dumped Norton quite some time ago but when I try to open a Word
or
Excel document, I get this message: 'Please wait while Windows
configures
Norton Anti Virus 2006' and then I get another ' running virus scan'.
I
have
to wait 3-4 minutes before I can use Word or even Excel. Any
suggestions?

I have to agree with Richard. Dump Norton it is next to useless. If
you
are
pushed for an anti virus application download the free version of AVG
(http://free.grisoft.com) or Avast (http://www.avast.com).

Hi, (Note: I posted this on a general vista group before I
discovered
this
security forum. Sorry for the double post)...
I'm on Vista Home Premium and I've got Norton 2007.2 Anti-Virus
software
installed (it's Vista compatible). I've even done a successful, full
virus
scan. I installed the Norton 2007 just after the Vista upgrade.

For some reason, Vista does not recognize the Norton program and I
have
a
'danger'/security alert in my task bar saying my computer is maybe
at
risk.
If I click that icon, it takes me to the Security Center where it
says
that Vista sees no Anti-Virus Software on my computer.

I do have a spy sweeper program as well but that is recognized ok by
Vista.

What could be causing this?

Many Thanks for any assistance,....Frank
