It seems you have the reverse problem as everyone else (which should make
your problem easier I would think). Assuming your XP machine had been running fine while connected directly to the cable modem it's most likely a configuration issue. Since the Vista machine can't lock your XP machine from the router, i'm thinking your connection issues are just standard XP network issues. Some items that i would check a 1. If you're running DHCP on your new router make sure your XP machine is set to run DHCP. I'm assuming it should already be set to DHCP since most cable internet providers run it. It may be necessary to release and renew your IP address (start - run - type "cmd" (less the quotes), type "ipconfig /release", then type "ipconfig /renew"). 2. If you're running static IP addresses on your router double check that they are on the same network... first three sets of numbers the same (and not conflicting with the new Vista machine). 3. Make sure you aren't connecting your XP machine to the router with a crossover cable. 4. Check to make sure your computers are on the same workgroup (not sure if this is required for connection to a router but the default workgroup for Vista and XP is different). Just some thoughts i would try.
