Default USB Devices

Hi,

I purchased DELL PC with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. It was working
great but from last few days, I am getting driver not found message for all
the USB devices even for Optical Mouse. I tried inserting the driver CD
which came along with the PC but no help. Even searching for driver on net
didn't help.

Windows shows message that driver is not installed for the Optical Mouse.

Has anyone encountered similar problem? Please suggest any solution.

Thanks
Sachin

Your C:\windows\inf\INFCACHE.1 file is probably corrupted and should be
deleted. Before you can delete it you need to edit its file permissions
to grant Full Control to the Users group.

Thanks for your reply Don.

Problem is resolved by specifying path of driver C:\windows\System32.
Windows was not able to search driver automatically but explicitly
specifying path worked.

Still not sure what action trigerred this problem.

Further, my USB Flash drive is still not functioning, Vista says USB is
malfunctioning but same flash drive is working fine on XP machine

Yes, that exactly fits with a corrupted INFCACHE.1 as I described below.
It's a bug that MS is working on, but the workaround will fix it until
MS comes up with a real solution.
