Hi mrchev,
If you are connected to the net and can get mail ect, I think you will find this is an IE problem, either download and re-install IE or better still download Firefox, and I'm pretty confident your problem will go away. I've had this many times over the years, and it's always IE. I've never had this problem with Firefox. I run both, mainly keep Firefox for browsing, and us IE when I need to download something from MS. linda "mrchev" wrote: Hi can sombody please help i am at my witts end here goes I bought a new laptop on thursday that has vista home prem installed with ie7 i have a dlink wireless i can get onto the internet from my laptop but when i go to ebay i get to the sign in page and thats as far as it goes i states i am signed in but will not let me go any further it either freezes or i get an error message that says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. Ok then, lets brake this down. What can you do?
Can you get email via mail software? What websites are you able to vist. If it is sites that require SSL, in internet options have you checked that they are ticked? Go to a site that you know requires no secure connection, does it happen there? Clean out your cache etc and restart IE. Does your signal drop, are pages slow to load and then when they do you get the 404 page? Is your ISP having any problems of late? Check their status page. Sorry for the multi post, just thinking of new things to try. Another
problem could be that you have a trojan, or some other nasty. Have you scanned your system? Virus scan and then down load spybot (www.spybot.com) and adaware (www.adaware.com) and then scan with these. Don't worry if you MS Defender on your pc, it's quiet safe to have more than one, it's not like AV's. It's always better to have a couple, and to be honest MS Defender doesn't do as well in lab tests.
