Default Networking Permissions

I have set up a home network and I can see the computer running xp and the xp
can see my Vista Home Premium Host computer. As far as I know I have set up
both to share (I only want to allow the xp to access the music on the vista).
The vista can access the files shared on the xp but when you try to access
the music file on the vista from the xp it says you do not have neccessary
permissions. How do I set up the file to allow the xp access? Please help it
is driving me mad after days taken to get to this point.

Martine - There are a lot of similar issues posted around here so you can
find something specific to what you need, plus this is the official help
link, along with Norton or McAfee (or similar) settings that you have to find
& enable the IP addresses for VISTA to see your home network (they aren't set
for that out of the box):

Default Networking Permissions

Is the XP unit an XP Home ?
Try enabling password sharing in Vista, and ensure that each unit has the
same logon name and pw on each machine.

Alternative, if this is home network behind a router and firewall with
proper configuration to allow access for both machines(ip or mac address) in
both directions with you and family mmembers as the only trusted users and
don't wish to populate each machine with more user accounts;
- right click on the music folder to be shared, the File and Sharing Wizard
dialog box will pop up, enter the word Guest in the field, then set the
permission to Co-Owner. Click Share(lower right), then close the Window.
- Restart the Vista machine, logon
- restart the XP machine, logon
- wait for the network connections to be established(you may have to enter
an encryption key if a router is present..WPA2-2Psk is suggested), attempt
to access the folder on the Vista machine from the XP machine, enter the
username/password for the Vista machine.
