What sound card are you using? Games running on the Source engine appear to
be picky about the sound card you're using; my desktop wouldn't run HL2
until I upgraded from integrated to a SB Audigy SE (which is still a cheap
card, mind!).

Guys.. I just bought a new PC... and I'm having CRASHES with HLČ...

Running it on Windows Vista Ultimate x64... all the lastest drivers and
NO overheating here... The problem is.. I can play for some time... but
suddenly the game crashes... I have to restart cuz it crashes
everything... blocking PC access...

And some times, when I try to exit HLČ (without any craches 'till) it
just stop reponding...

I thought it was my PC.. but since u guys are having problems aswell...
what do u think?

Here it's:

C2D E8400 (both at 3GHz and 3.6GHz - OC'd)
G. Skill 4Gb DDR800
ECS 8800GTS 512
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
Creative Audigy Gamer (Oldie but Goodie)
Corsair 550W Power Supply
WD 80Gb SATA

Steps:
1) Update sound drivers

2) Update Video card drivers

3) If ur using another version from Vista Basic, it's possible that
more resources are being allocated to Aero...
to solve this:

(From outside Game explorer)
a. Right click on ur games' icons..
b. Go to Properties
c. Click on the Tab called "Compatibility'
d. Mark 'Disable Visual Themes' and 'Disable Desktop Composition'

(From inside Games Exporer)
i. Right click on Games icon
ii. Press 'Customize'
iii. Highlight 'Play' and press 'Edit'
iv. go to step 'a.' above

4) Close all programs that can be suspicious to do this...
this includes:
Antiviruses,
Firewalls,
Internet Browsers,
any other non-windows program from the System Tray

5) Turn off the internet and try playing again...

6) If none of the above work, disable UAC, reboot, then try playing...

7) Now if none of the above help, wait for someone else to try to help
you...
