I used Cisco VPN to connect to my office XP Professional on a university
network from a XP desktop and a XP labtop at home. They all worked fine.
After I upgraded to Vista Premium on the desktop, I tried to use Vista built
in VPN, but with no success (while I am still able to connect using my
labtop). After diagnosis, the message says, "Windows confirmed that
".....[server]" is current online, but is not responding to connection
attempts at this time. This usually means that a firewall is running
somewhere between the two computers and blocking "pptp". Windows has
confirmed that Windows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to
allow this connection. However, a remote firewall might be blocking your
connection." But I don't think there is a third firewall between my Vista and
the server which is working.

I have tried to use Cisco VPN that worked before. But no connection. The
error message is "Secure VPN Connection terminated by Peer. Reason 433:
(Reason Not Specified by Peer. Connection terminated on.... Duration
00:00.00... The client did not match the firewall policy configured on the
central site VPN device. Cisco Systems Integrated Client Firewall should be
enabled or installed on your computer." I have tried all possible ways
mentioned and all versions of Cisco VPN. Still no connection and the same
error message. Can someone here please help with this. Would very much
approciate any assistance.

Does the Vista have another security software like OneCare?

If the University is using Cisco as the backend you won't be able to connect
using the VPN software supplied with Windows Vista. You will need to obtain
and install the Vista compliant version of the VPN client (which was
released about a month ago).

Note: The updated client is only downloable from Cisco for customers with a
support contract.

I tried all versions of VPN including the latest 5.00.00.0340. All the same
error message. I started to wonder if my ADSL box has some firewall bewteen
blocking? Just a layman's guess. Many thanks for response. Would appreciate
any thoughts.
