I purchased a notebook computer yesterday. I tried to connect to my MN-700
router wireless network and have been unsuccessful. The computer sees the network, which is unsecured, but will not allow me to connect. It does not seem that the router would be the issue since the computer sees the network but I spent an hour with a Toshiba tech support person and there conclusion was to contact Microsoft and see if the router is compatible. Could it be a security issue? |

The MN-700 should work fine with the latest firmware. I've never run
one in insecure mode and I strongly suggest that you change this. On Tue, 24 Apr 2007 09:32:05 -0700, Tree wrote: I purchased a notebook computer yesterday. Thanks for the response and I'll change it to secured but why can't I connect

are you runnning your MN-700 in G-only mode? there is a bug in the MN-700,
such that when run in G only mode it is out of RFC compliance w.r.t advertised connection speeds, and some wireless adapters will not tolerate that. If this is your problem, try switching the router back into B+G mode, and see if that helps. k. here are two general rules-
1. change the default SSID to something 2. use the strongest encryption your hardware supports 3. make sure you have the latest firmware for your router - the firmware for the MN700 should be at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=6790 after you upgrade the firmware, go here and confirm that the MN700 passes the tests http://www.microsoft.com/windows/usi...d/default.mspx Vista has more prompts to connect to an insecure network - you may have missed one. My MN-700 periodically loses its wireless connectivity entirely...we've
fixed it by cycling the power off and on. Other than that, I have no problems connecting wired or wirelessly from my Vista laptop. I will, however, check the firmware and update if necessary. Barb,
The program you link to that checks/updates your firmware, doesn't run on Vista at all...
