Vista/XP Networking Problem
I just got a new laptop with Vista and am trying to do file and printer
sharing with other XP computers on the network. Two are fine, but the third is asking for a user name and password. I have uninstalled ZoneAlarm and AV software; set up user accounts for both computers; run the network wizard for file and printer sharing; enabled Netbios over TCP/IP in the IP ver. 4 properties. Have no idea why the other two don't have a problem, but this one does. All have the same workgroup name. I can do remote desktop connection, but would prefer file and printer sharing. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. Cathy

It's an XP server (PC) as are two others on the network. It's asking for a
user ID and password, but none work. No problems accessing the shared files on the Vista laptop. Thanks. Remember Windows XP comes in 2 flavours - Home and Pro. And Pro might have Simple, or Advanced, File Sharing. Thank you!! I'm not sure if it was unchecking Simple File Sharing or the net
user command, but all the printers and shared folders are now showing up. Appreciate your help!
