I just purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I am able to log onto our
wireless router, but do not see anywhere where I can locate other computers on the network. I guess we just run a peer to peer network (no server). On XP, I am able to see all WORKGROUP computers, access shared folders, print on a variety of printers, etc. I can't figure out how to do it on Vista. I was able to find one printer, but none of the rest. Any help would be much appreciated!!! |

This implies that your computers are secure, behind a perimeter firewall or a NAT router, and opens the personal firewall for file sharing. * Check / set "Password protected sharing" (PPS). Disabling PPS is the equivalent of enabling Simple File Sharing, in Windows XP. * Setup shared folders and printers. If you enabled PPS, you should setup access for individual users. If you disabled PPS, you setup access for "Guest" or "Everyone". http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/technet/net.../vista_fp.mspx Other than the wizards, Vista will be basically like XP. You'll still have issues with Windows Networking, if not properly set. * Put all computers in the same workgroup. * Make sure that NetBT is Enabled consistently. * Make sure that all personal firewalls are properly setup. * Make sure that name resolution is consistently setup. http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
