i am creating a video for our school's banquet,and everytime i add a
transition to any slide, the preview screen goes black and i have to get rid
of the transitions to see a picture. Sometimes even doing that doesn't work.
Anyone know what to do? i really need these transitions to make it look good.

Does it work once you save it out?
In my experience, this has typically indicated video card driver problems -
is there an update available from your vendor?

Hi Rachel
I also had the same problem which was totally annoying. I took it back to
my computer shop and they in turn had phoned microsoft to check regarding
this problem. Apparently, microsoft were aware of this problem and were
going to do some sort of an upgrade that we could then download. I haven't
heard as yet but it should be pretty close.
Doesn't help much but at least you are doing anything wrong just a
"microsoft problem" - you'd think they could have gotten it right!

No update in sight. Anyone's got any news? It's really frustrating!

Just for kicks I put together a quick slideshow of 64 pictures. In
turn I used every transition in Movie Maker, all 63 of them in turn.
They all dropped in fine and all played fine on my system. I did
notice some would blank the preview window during the drag and drop
phase. If you firmly hold down the left mouse button and only drop
AFTER the cursor changes to a "+" no problems at all.

So I would conclude people having problems a

1. not dragging and dropping correctly
2. something odd in their particular setup
3. one or more source images files is causing the problem
4. one or more of the transition files are corrupt.

Had the same problem and this is not a dragging and droping issue. The
problem aslo seems to vary a little. Sometimes I can get the preview to play
just by adjusting the transistion size. I even got the whole thing to play
start to finish, saved the project and exited. When I reopened the project
the preview screen was black again I had not made changes to the timeline at
all. This is really looking like a microsoft problem.

Read it and weep. It's a problem with their bundled movie maker. Go buy
something that works......
