Default Internet connection problem

I recently brought a laptop (Vista Basic) and a wireless modem and connected
it up via Ethernet to my desktop computer (xp). Both worked fine and I could
access the internet from either one but now, even though my desktop is
telling me I'm connected to the internet, I cannot access a web site. I have
no trouble with my laptop. Can someone tell me what's going on and how to
fix this. It's driving me nuts.
