Default Home Network Backup Issues

I have just added an external HD to my Desktop, however, I can not set-up an
automatic backup process on my Laptop to this hard drive. My network appears
to be fine for everything else (I can see and use files on shared folders,
including the external hard drive) but when I set up the auto backup process
from the Laptop I am told that I need to give the user Full Control
permissions. Where can I find this option? and on which computer do I need
to set this on?
Thanks
