Default Build 5536: Can't get netowrk sharing/discovery working

Some additional information... hte other machnes were/are reachable using
\\IP_ADDRESS\\... connectivity was not an issue..

When I enabled printer sharing (although I did not need to access another
printer), I did see the other computers for a short period, then I could not
see them again. While reading other posts someone suggested enabling all the
network sharing options. I tried this and now I always see my other
computers.

It's not ideal (esp from a security point of view), but it is working... If
you would like me to disable items in a specific order to better dianose the
problem, I would be happy to work with you.

Regards.

Fred,

Are you able to ping the other XP machines ? try ping XP_machine_name. If
this doesnt work, then there could be connectivity issues (router or network
adapter).

If connectivity is fine, can you send me the output of this :
(1) net view
(2) net view xp_machine_name

Thanks,
Prashanth

Everything was working fine with public Beta 2. After installing build
5536
I can no longer see any of the Windows XP computers in the same workgroup
(nor can they see the Vista computer).

Here's what is set:

1) All the computers have the same workgroup (yes I am sure).

2) In the Network and Sharing Panel:

Network: (Private Netwoek)
Access: Local and Internet
Connection: Local Are Network
Network Discovery: On
File sharing: On
Public folder sharing: On (read only)
Printer sharing: Off
Password protected sharing: Off
Media sharing: Off

Local Area Connection Properties (of interest):
Client for Microsoft Networks (checked)
File and Printer Sharing for MS Networks (checked)
TCP/IPv4: NetBIOS setting: Default

I've searched the web for hours and found no resolution. Any help would
be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
