Default Video Card Help

Can anyone offer some been there - done that experience with video cards &
Vista.

My old 128 Meg ATI Sapphire worked fine for all videos, but would not allow
me to burn DVDs on Vista. I upgraded to a 256 meg Nvidia 6200LE from Tiger
Direct in the hopes that it would solve the problem... instead it made things
worse. Now it will not play WMV files clearly.

I am now faced with trying to find a replacement card for under $100. Can
anyone offer any suggestions from this page that will work?

Default Video Card Help

Well I'm not sure as to what sort of system you are running but to me it
sounds like a driver problem.
I have a similar video card, and had some issues like the ones you have
described, I downloaded the vista beta drivers from the nvidia website and
everything has been running smoothly ever since
just remember when installing the video drivers to install them in
administrator mode

I'm running the following specs
asus p4p800s-x mobo
p4 3.0 ghz 800mhz fsb prescott core cpu
1 gb of geil ram 2x 512 mb
nvidia n6200 agp video card

Default Video Card Help

Thanks Will.

I am running an Athlon 2500XP with 1 Gig of Ram. Some WMV files will work
fine with the card, but most will not. Especially the sample WMV files that
came with Vista

Default Video Card Help

I am the "changing video cards" MASTER. I own the concept...lol

It DOES sound like a driver problem. You ARE using the Vista beta driver
from the nVidia site, and not any of the drivers from the cd that comes with
the video card, right? If not, that's your problem. If so, good.

Vista is very picky about things. Especially video cards. I have video
cards from several vendors. Some of them, even though they have the same
chipset as another that DOES work, won't work properly.

I do know that my eVGA cards (Both the 6200 and 7600) work okay, though
there is considerable "tracing" on the display. I haven't taken the time to
see if that's the card or the monitor or the driver yet...was going to do
that after my friend's funeral...

Default Video Card Help

Thanks for the info.

I was using first using the Vista drivers, then the NVidia drivers. Neither
would allow me to play certain WMV files in any watachable form.
