I just recently purchased a Laptop with Vista Home Premium on it. I have
never setup a network and would like to so I can access files and the printer connected to the desktop. I am using a 2Wire modem/router. Both are able to connect to the internet, but I am unsure of how to setup a network where I can see both computers. I need to know what to do on both machines. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Thanks. If both computers have Internet service, then the wireless issue is irrelevant. Concentrate now on the XP - Vista issue. http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html Setting the Network Location Type to Private, on the Vista computer, is a key step here. Also, make sure that NetBT is explicitly Enabled, and both computers are in the same workgroup. And check the firewall on the XP computer. -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
