Default network with vista and xp

Just installed vista ultimate desktop on my network. My other pcs are all
runningw xp. Although I have internet access on all my computers, my vista pc
cannot access files from the xp pcs and vice versa. Now I know the network
does work to some extent, because the xp pcs all can see each other. In fact,
my xp computers can "see" the vista pc but when I try to access it it says no
permission. The vista pc just does not even see the xp pcs.

I have set network discovery on and every sharing feature is on. They are
all on the same workgroup.

Thanks,

Ryan

First, download a patch from MS (LLTD) that has to be installed on your XP
computers...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
this will enable XP to be seen in Vista's Networking map...
then goto these two sites and follow the instructions...

Took me hours to find out how to do this.....Vista Sux
the best of Aussie to you

Ryan,

First, configure the Network Location Type to Private. How is your file sharing
setup? Are you using Simple File Sharing on Windows XP? If so, turn off
Password Protected File Sharing on the Vista computer. Then enable the Guest
account on each computer.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html

Then check the NetBT setting on all computers, and make sure that it's
consistently set to agree with each firewall.

Finally, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", run from each computer,
so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
