Wireless Connection
I have a new laptop with Vista. My home network is a Linksys Wireless Router
on a WEP encryption. My other laptop running on XP can connect to the router. The Vista laptop has been configured to the wireless network and shows that the laptop is connected. However, no data can transmit. IE displays an error message that the webpage cannot be displayed.

I forgot to mention that when I disable the security settings on the router,
the vista laptop can connect to the network. However, when I enable the security settings, the laptop cannot transmit data. "SCrazygurl" wrote: I have a new laptop with Vista. 2. what firmware? if not the latest, please upgrade 3. is the SSID being broadcast? You really should be using WPA2 or WPA since WEP is so unsafe these days. The router is a N - wrt150N. it is the latest firmware - 1.1.2. Yes, the
SSID is being broadcast. I'm not sure how to change to WPA. I don't think I have that option, I see PSK in the drop down field. does this computer get an IP from the router or not? if yes, can you open a cmd prompt and type tracert yahoo.com [enter] does it resolve? The Vista laptop cannot ping the router nor does using the cmd "tracert" have
any results. I took your earlier advice and changed the WEP to WPA-PSK security type. The Vista laptop immediately connected and my XP laptop immediately disconnected.  I had to reconfigure the XP laptop by deleting the network and reinstalling the network to accept the new security protocols. Thanks. All that was necessary was to change the XP encryption and passkey in the XP adapter's wireless settings to agree with that on the reconfigured router.
