Default Problem with wireless networking

I have a laptop with windows vista home premium edition and a desktop pc with
windows XP home edition SP2. I tried to setup wireless networking using
Belkin's ADSL modem with wireless Pre-N Router. I followed the instructions
given in the manual and set the router setting with the help of my ISP
provider (I was told to select PPPoA, but I have doubt if it is PPPoE). In
internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties, default option was "obtain IP address
automatically" I changed it to "use the following address" and filled it with
the information given in the manuals. Now I can access internet from my
laptop. I can see local area connection Icon on my desktop pc but not able to
access internet on the desktop PC. Also couldn’t share files and folders.
Also I want to set password for my wireless network so that there wont be
anonymous users using my internet.
