Unless the Lexmark driver is itself fully featured (and many initial
drivers are not) and also fully VISTA compatible then you may not be
able to get the scanning function to work.

You are not trying to scan over a network, are you?

Is the AIO USB connected? If so did you install the software while the
AIO was connected to the computer?

I also had the same problem with the lexmark 1270. I finally contacted
lexmark and had them send me the installation CD by mail for the vista
program. When I used it it all worked wonderfully.

I bought a new PC with Vista x64 and when I installed my Lexmark X1290
that I used previously on my old Windows XP, I got most of the error
messages on this forum. The problem, I found out on the Lexmark Driver
Download site, is that the Lexmark installation CD has XP drivers. On
the Lexmark Driver Download website, they talked me through uinstalling
all Lexmark XP drivers and reinstalling the Windows Vista driver from
the website. After doing this, all features of my Lexmark X1290 work
great. Good luck.
